What is it to be an Indian? What is patriotism for you? We remember these 2 questions and put it across to others only on this day.
Today I am here to share some enthralling experiences that I have been into which has made me feel proud being an Indian. I have encountered these experiences at my office with my colleagues who are non-Indians (It is hard to make out which nationality they belong to). The below things are something that we don’t expect from anybody other than Indian to know. Each point on the list makes me feel proud and tempts me to say often that we have made the mark in the world and have gone global.
- They can’t resist without Roti and Dhal for their dinner. It is a must. One of my colleagues mentioned that Roti and Dhal are no more Indian. They would want to have it every day and cannot finish their dinner with out the two.
- They like Dhoni and Pathan than Symonds and Gilly. They were always looking for the scores and statistics of these two during cricket match in Australia. Not to mention, my colleagues were the most updated people during IPL.
- They know the importance woman having Bindi (dot) on her forehead. My colleague even mentioned that it is only in my culture, I have something I can carry and enjoy it at the same time.
- They know what Kamadhenu means and the importance of the same in Hindu religion.
- They are aware of the stories of Lord Rama, Krishna, Shiva and all-time favourite Ganesh.
- They are well aware that we are intelligent and think out of box.
- They appreciate the bonding we share in the family.
Last but not least,
- They like the concept of Tiffins in Melbourne. 13 of my colleagues ordered and enjoyed the food. See few of the pics below.
- They love Kingfisher beer.
While they are certain class of people who want to know and appreciate more about our culture there are people who think:
- All people in India wash their clothes in rivers. Gross!!
- Only cities have electricity. blah..blah..
- We eat noodles using hand. Grr…..
- Etc... etc
Thanks to all the documentaries which are taken by the people who are not Indians and who do not attempt to understand the significance of Indian culture.
So what does patriotism mean to me?
- To scientifically convince these people about our culture and what India is today.
- It to remove the myths that they have created to always see Indian people as poor and below the food chain and India as underdeveloped country.
- To uphold my country’s pride each time and every time.
I stop my politician speech now and share few pictures taken on the occasion of ‘Indian Tiffins day’ at our office. Enjoy your independence.

Good one!
Cool to see stuff like this.
- All people in India wash their clothes in rivers. Gross!!
I don't understand why you think, washing clothes is Gross?
Gross....
- Only cities have electricity. blah..blah..
Are you serious.
In the city I'm from, we used to have Electricity, 4 hours a day
- We eat noodles using hand. Grr…..
Don't you? interesting
Nice article btw :)
@ Shivaarupattanada Chandranatha Chudamani Mayura Varma Jakkannachari - (That's quite a big and unique name)
1) I have mentioned gross for their perception that in entire India people wash clothes in the river. How many cities are connected to the rivers? Note my reaction is not because I think washing clothes is gross. BTW... I wash clothes myself and enjoy doing so and think it is better than washing machine!!
2) Again.. some people here think, only major cities have electricity... well... it was my reaction again towards their perception about India. Also, I come from the city where there was electricity for 12 hours. Having no electricity at all does matter than having 4 or 12 hours.
3) My last reaction also was because of their thoughts about India.. We can eat with what we are comfortable with.
Last one.. get the right message dude!! Do not make me write long replies for something that is explicitly mentioned.
